West Palm, Frankel working to televise today’s charter review hearing

By Andrew Abramson

After Mayor Lois Frankel was questioned about why the city is holding its charter review hearings in an upstairs room without television cameras, Frankel said that city staff is working to move the hearings to the Flagler Gallery. This would allow it to be televised, starting with today’s introductory meeting at 5:30 p.m.

Frankel said she wants the hearings to be transparent so the public is assured nothing unethical is occurring. She stated emphatically that the hearings are not a guise to provide her with extended term limits, and that her reputation is being unfairly tarnished.

Frankel said she doesn’t decide which meetings are televised, and staff tries to gauge which meetings hold the most interest to the public.

“Today’s meeting is just a preliminary meeting for everyone to say hello, but as far as I’m concerned, it should all be televised,” Frankel said.
