Poll: How do you feel about the proposed renovations to Sun Life Stadium?

By Post Staff

The Dolphins unveiled a “comprehensive modernization” plan for Sun Life Stadium on Monday, proposing $375-400 million in renovations to bring the 25-year-old stadium up to date with modern stadiums, help keep South Florida in heavy rotation for Super Bowls, BCS Championship Games and other big events, and bring fans back to Dolphins and Miami Hurricanes games.

The proposed renovations, designed by Kansas City firm 360 Architecture — which also built MetLife Stadium in New York — would include:

* A canopy over the seats to protect fans from sun and inclement weather.
* Improved sightlines, and bringing seats closer to the sidelines.
* Improved concourses and food options.
* Four high-definition replay screens, one for each corner of the stadium.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has pledged to pay more than 50 percent of the cost of renovations with his own private money, but hopes the public will chip in as well, through the form of a 1 percent tax increase on mainland Miami hotels (otherwise known as a “bed tax”), and a $3 million-per-year sales tax rebate on goods sold exclusively at the stadium for 30 years. The stadium ideally would be ready for the 2015 season, so that the Dolphins could host Super Bowl 50 in February of 2016.

Since the public is potentially going to have a stake in this stadium, let’s poll the public to see how it feels about the proposed renovations. Here are four renderings provided by the team and 360 Architecture:

Now that you’ve seen the concept, how do you feel about the new stadium? Mind you, the only people directly paying for the the renovations are the Dolphins and hotel visitors to the mainland of Miami (not Miami Beach):
