Bethune-Cookman snags QB Larry Brihm, WR Frank Brown in impressive weekend haul

By Jeff Greer

The area’s best senior quarterback desperately wanted a chance to play at the FBS level, and so did Palm Beach County’s top senior receiver.

Yet no matter how many numbers they put up, Village Academy quarterback Larry Brihm and Palm Beach Gardens receiver Frank Brown just couldn’t get an FBS program to offer them a scholarship. Now they’re hoping a journey through FCS football will make those bigger programs regret it. Brihm (6-0, 210, No. 37 on the Big Board) and Brown (5-11, 175, No. 27 on the Big Board) committed to Bethune-Cookman on Sunday after concluding their official visits of the Daytona campus.

Brihm threw for 2,578 yards, 24 touchdowns and seven interceptions for Village this fall, helping the Tigers reach the regional playoffs for the first time in school history. He also played safety for Village, and that’s the position FBS coaches wanted Brihm to play. He was named MVP at the Florida-Georgia All-Star Game and at the Palm Beach County-Treasure Coast All-Star Game. He made first-team all-state for Class 2A.

Brown, who did have interest from Arkansas, FAU, FIU and Purdue, caught 34 passes for 706 yards and four touchdowns in a run-heavy Gardens offense. He had a breakout year as a junior in 2011, catching 45 passes for 889 yards and 12 touchdowns, helping Gardens reach the regional final.
