Florida has been planning on CB Janoris Jenkins leaving early for the NFL Draft since last year. It’s not really “early” for Jenkins, anyway. Given his track record — playing on the Pahokee HS varsity team as an eighth-grader, playing for the Gators as a true freshman — no one should be surprised by ESPN and the Gainesville Sun, citing sources, reporting that Jenkins will declare for the NFL Draft by the Jan. 15 deadline.
It might be a little surprising, though, to read the Sun‘s report that FS Will Hill will try to turn pro as well.
Jenkins is widely projected as a first-round pick and has been touted as an NFL project for at least a year. Hill is not. He has strong measurables, but was dreadful at times last season. Former coach Urban Meyer suspended him the first two games for disciplinary issues. Meyer and former defensive coordinator Teryl Austin said publicly Hill was underachieving this season.
A Florida football spokesperson said Thursday no players had declared for the NFL Draft. A spokesperson did not immediately return a message seeking comment Friday.
The Sun reported both players did not attend a team meeting Wednesday with new coach Will Muschamp.
