Football picks up big transfer in LB Chris Martin

By Jason Lieser

Linebacker Chris Martin plans to transfer from California to Florida and is eligible to play in 2011.

Martin’s Facebook page says, “I would like to thank everyone who has been supportive of me through my crazy mental episodes. A special thank you to my mother and father who have supported me no matter what. I love you both. God has granted me a second chance. A chance I cannot mess up. With that said. Go Gators. Thank You to everyone and all the coaches who showed their interest in me.”

When asked by a friend if he was going to be a Gator, Martin typed, “i am chomp chomp.”

Martin de-committed from Notre Dame to pick Cal, but never played a down for the Golden Bears. He has all four years of college eligibility.

He is adherent to the transfer rule of sitting out a year because he signed a letter of intent with Cal.

His Facebook page bio currently says, “I’m Blessed and Currently Committed to the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana,” though that is outdated, obviously.

Seems like Martin and Matt Elam will become fast friends. Just a hunch.

He is 6-5, 245 and had 11 sacks in his senior season for Grandview High in Colorado.
