Late filed amendment would bar local fertilizer rules until 2016

  • 5:50 pm Sunday, March 24th, 2013 by Christine Stapleton

A late-filed amendment to a swiftly moving environmental regulation bill (HB 999) would block communities from regulating  fertilizer-use on lawns until 2016 and would create a 15-member Fertilizer Regulatory Review Council to perform “a comprehensive review of existing scientific data relating to the environmental fate of nutrients in urban settings.”

The Council must complete its review by Jan. 15, 2016. Until then, “local governments may not adopt new ordinances to regulate non-agricultural fertilizer or its use.”

Miami Dolphins Talking Points: Sense of ‘urgency’ takes hold in Week 2

  • 6:54 am Friday, September 16th, 2011 by Post Staff

Three Miami Dolphins talking points heading into Friday’s practice, the last one of the week before Sunday’s game against the Texans:

1. Sense of ‘urgency’ pervasive this week at Dolphins camp.

The Dolphins already are in a one-game hole in the AFC East after becoming the only team to lose on opening weekend.

They hope to avoid an 0-2 start at home this Sunday against Houston. A loss would be their 11th in 12 home games. A loss would probably increase the temperature of Tony Sparano’s seat from “hot” to “burning.” And a loss would make selling tickets to future home games against Denver, Washington, Buffalo and Oakland even more diffuclt.

The Dolphins also play three straight road games after Sunday. So, yes, the Dolphins really need a win against the Texans this week.

“It’s obviously a huge sense of urgency,” Sparano said Thursday. “We want to get going here. If we want to get to where we want to be, we have our goals here as a football team, we’ve got to win this week. All our efforts have been putting the game behind us behind us and getting on to the new game and really trying to get a win here.”
